On a rainy afternoon, North Greenville dropped its first midweek game of the season to non-conference opponent Anderson University with a final score of 7-3 in Anderson, SC. The loss is North Greenville's fifth consecutive at Anderson Memorial Stadium, where the two teams have faced off once per year for the last five seasons.
After a scoreless first inning, Anderson quickly got to work in the bottom of the second. After a double by Anderson's Zach Mcllroy, three consecutive singles by Bryce Patrick, Tyler Miller, and William Thomas plated four runs for Anderson. All four runs were charged to North Greenville starter Zack Kamerman, who was pulled in the second inning while Kyle Kadlub finished the inning. Kamerman finished the day with three hits allowed, one walk, and four earned runs. Kadlub allowed a hit but did not give up a run.
The Crusaders plated a run of their own in the top of the fourth inning with an RBI fielder's choice by Andrew Plunkett. However, Anderson would plate two additional runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth thanks to five singles in the inning. Those runs were charged to Blake Hamilton, who came in to pitch in the third inning. His three-inning outing resulted in six hits allowed, no walks, and 2 earned runs.
Sam Pruitt entered the game to pitch the bottom of the sixth inning. He retired all three batters faced.
In the top of the seventh inning, North Greenville would score their second run of the game. After a leadoff hit and a stolen base by Adam Frazier, Bennette Hill singled up the middle to score Frazier to bring the score to 6-2.
Anderson would add an insurace run in the bottom of the eighth thanks to an RBI triple by Xavier Peralta. The run was charged to Sal Lovaglio, who pitched the final two innings for North Greenville. His outing resulted in one hit allowed, two walks, and one earned run.
North Greenville would not go down without a fight. With Benette Hill in scoring position in the top of the ninth inning, Ryan Brown connected with a single to center field, bringing in Brown. A groundout by Clark Scolamiero ended the game. Anderson's Ryan Owens received the win while North Greenville's Zack Kamerman received the loss. The loss brings the Crusaders to 2-2 for the season.
Next up for North Greenville is a three-game series against Lander, with game one scheduled for Thursday at 3:00pm in Tigerville.
