Burlington, N.C. -- North Greenville's late inning rally came up short on Friday morning as the Crusaders fell to Barton College 4-2 in the opening round of the Conference Carolinas tournament.
Barton took a 1-0 lead after three innings but a three run fourth would put the Bulldogs over the top. A solo homer to lead off the frame would get the ball rolling while a two out double from Garrett would plate two runs and put North Greenville in a 4-0 hole.
North Greenville would get on the board in the seventh inning as Bennette Hill singled in Foley George who led off the inning with a double to left center. The Crusaders plated one more run in the ninth inning but timely outs left NGU with two runners stranded as the Bulldogs escaped with the opening round upset.
NGU had eight hits distributed by eight different players. Foley George led NGU with two runs scored while going 1-3 with a hit by pitch. Shaquille Rolle accounted for NGU's second RBI with a run scoring fielder's choice in the ninth inning.
The Crusaders will take on the loser of the Erskine vs. Pfeiffer game which is scheduled to begin at 12pm. NGU will play 45-minutes after the final pitch.
