Burlington, N.C. – North Greenville baseball’s chase of a second consecutive Conference Carolinas Championship will begin Thursday afternoon at 3pm against Barton College.
North Greenville finished the season with an overall record of 35-14, including a program best 21-6 mark in Conference Carolinas play.
NGU’s league record earned the team the second seed in the tournament following Monday’s win over the first seeded Erskine Flying Fleet.
The Bulldogs of Barton College finished the season 30-18 overall with a 15-12 record in the league. The Bulldogs will be fifth seed in the tournament.
North Greenville earned a 2-1 series win over Barton in March, rebounding from a Friday night loss to the Bulldogs in extra innings.
The Crusaders were the sixth seed in last year’s tournament and recorded upset wins over league best Mount Olive and Pfeiffer.
What to watch for:
The Crusaders lead the league in fielding percentage, committing just 45 errors on the season. Boosting the defense are Hunter Dillworth and John Leopard who lead the league in wins with eight and saves with 12.
NGU has five players batting over .300 for the season including Mitchell Painter, the team leader with a .376 average.
Nathaniel Maggio leads the team in homers by a large margin with 17 on the season. His 17 dingers are first in Conference Carolinas. He also boasts 20 doubles and team high 49 RBI.
Look for NGU to be aggressive on the base paths. Shaquille Rolle is third in the league with 22 bags while the team leads the league with 89 on the season.
North Greenville and Barton will play Thursday afternoon at 3pm at Burlington Athletic Stadium.
