Due West, S.C. –North Greenville dropped a Conference Carolinas double-header on Saturday as Erskine College earned wins of 9-4 and 5-4 over NGU to claim sole position of first place in the Conference Carolinas pennant race.

North Greenville’s bats came to life in the fourth inning as three runs would come across. A bases loaded wild pitch would score Drew Lipscomb for the first run of the inning while an error on the Erskine infield would result in two RBI for Eric Gilbert as Josh Black and Shaquille Rolle would come around to score.

The Fleet proved too much for NGU though in the late innings tacking on a solo run in the fifth inning and seventh inning and two in the sixth. The loss dropped North Greenville to 34-13 overall on the year.

Andrew Frazier led the Crusaders with two hits. Gilbert would lead NGU with two RBI while Drew Lipscomb and Rolle were both 1-4 with a run scored. Hill was also 1-4 and scored a run. Foley George accounted for NGU’s only other RBI.

Game Two

The Crusaders jumped ahead first once again in game two as a Lipscomb single drove in two runs. The Fleet answered with their own first inning runs as a grand slam turned a two run lead for NGU into a two run deficit as the Crusaders found themselves down 4-2.

A run in the third from both teams would make the score 5-3 before Andrew Frazier’s RBI single scored Josh Black and cut the Erskine lead to one run.

Pitching and defense would rule the final three innings, as neither team was able to scratch another run. NGU mustered just three more hits in the final three innings while Erskine accounted for just four.

The Crusaders had their final chance in the top half of the seventh frame but were retired in order as they dropped just their second Conference Carolinas series of the season.

NGU had four players with two hits including Drew Lipscomb who led the team with three RBI in a 2-3 performance. Andrew Frazier was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI while Josh Black was 2-3 with a run. Foley George also accounted for two hits.

NGU falls to 34-14 overall and 20-6 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will wrap up the three-game set with Erskine on Monday afternoon with a 2:30 first pitch.
