Wilson, N.C. – North Greenville bounced back from a tough Friday loss to take two games from Barton, Saturday, earning wins of 11-9 and 10-1 over the Bulldogs.
The Crusaders fell behind early as the Bulldogs scratched across two runs in the first inning. North Greenville waited until the third inning to get on the board. Andrew Frazier would plate two runs with an RBI single while Bennette Hill scored on a wild pitch to give NGU a 3-2 lead.
One more run in the fourth inning scored for the Crusaders as Foley George would cross on a Shaquille Rolle triple to extend NGU’s lead to 4-2. The Bulldogs answered with two runs of their in the home half of the inning to even the score at 4-4.
The Crusaders would take a 9-4 lead after a four run fifth inning while two runs in the sixth would extend the lead to 10-4. The Bulldogs hung around though, scoring five runs in the sixth to pull to within one.
The Crusaders would stave off the tying and winning runs though while adding a run in the seventh to keep pace in the Conference Carolinas regular season race with a game one win.
Andrew Frazier would lead NGU with a 3-4 performance in game one, plating two RBI and scoring twice. Rolle was 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Hunter Dillworth would add an eighth win to his resume to remain at the top of the league.
NGU’s offense would stay hot in the second game as the Crusaders leapt out to an 8-0 lead after six innings. Two runs in the third and three in the fourth would give NGU a 5-0 edge. Josh Black and Jessep Polk would be credited with an RBI in the third while Polk added another in the fourth.
Josh Black would earn his second RBI of the game in the fifth inning with an RBI single while Nathaniel Maggio’s single in the sixth inning and another from David Houser would give the Crusaders their biggest lead of the series.
Barton would get on the board in the seventh inning, using a throwing error to cut the lead to seven runs. Black’s third RBI of the game in the eighth would re-extend the advantage to eight runs while Bennette Hill scored on a wild pitch in the 9th to add some insurance.
Tucker Burgess racked up his sixth win of the season for NGU in game two, pitching six innings of two hit baseball. Burgess struck out three and allowed just one free pass. Josh Black led NGU in game two, going 3-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Polk finished the day 3-5 with two RBI while Rolle capped off a big weekend with a 3-4 performance, scoring two runs.
North Greenville will take on Charleston Southern on Tuesday night at 6:30 in Lexington, South Carolina at Blowfish Stadium.
