North Greenville grounds Falcons in series opener

Misenheimer, N.C. - North Greenville baseball earned a 3-1 series opening decision over Pfeiffer, Friday evening in North Carolina. It was the fifth straight series opening win for the Crusaders.

The Crusaders overcame a one run deficit on Friday as Pfeiffer scored a run in the first inning. The Falcons' lead stood until the fifth inning.

Jae Roberts would put North Greenville on top with one swing of the bat with a single to left field that scored Shaquille Rolle and Mitchell Painter. Rolle and Painter got the rally started with consecutive one out singles. A free pass by the Falcons pitching staff would advance both into scoring position for Roberts.

The Crusaders tacked on one more run an inning later as Andrew Meadows cashed in a leadoff double from Nathaniel Maggio. Maggio advanced to third on a passed ball and later scored on Meadows' sacrifice fly to center field.

The 3-1 lead would be all the Crusaders needed as the NGU bullpen preserved the win. John Leopard earned his sixth save of the season while starter Zack Kamerman improved to 2-1 on the season. Kamerman pitched six innings for NGU, allowing one run on five hits. He also struck out six. North Greenville's bullpen combined for three full innings of work, allowing just one hit while striking out four.

The Crusaders finished with eight hits led by Roberts who was 2-3 with two RBI. Rolle, Painter, and Maggio each had a hit and a run scored while Meadows had a hit and NGU's third RBI. Foley George was 2-4 at the dish.

North Greenville improved to 22-9 overall and 12-1 in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will wrap up a three game set with the Falcons Saturday afternoon with a double-header starting at 2pm.
