Tigerville, S.C. -- North Greenville stayed perfect in Conference Carolinas play on Saturday, taking two games from Mount Olive to complete the three-game sweep. The Crusaders improved to 9-0 in league play with wins of 12-1 and 5-0 over the Trojans.
NGU took a 7-0 lead after two innings. Jae Roberts would get North Greenville on the board with an RBI single in the first inning while six runs would cross in the second on four hits. David Houser's single would plate two runs while Nathaniel Maggio's three run blast would score Houser as well as Jae Roberts. NGU also got some help from the Trojans, as Andrew Frazier would score on a wild pitch after leading the inning off with a double.
Maggio would connect with his second homer of the game in the fourth inning to earn his fourth and fifth RBI. David Houser would also score on Maggio's second of the day as NGU extended the lead to 9-0. Tony Davila would reach base on a double and later score on a single from Andrew Frazier while Frazier would cross on a single from Drew Lipscomb that also scored Mitchell Painter who moved Frazier to third base on a double.
Mount Olive's only run of the game would come in the top of the fourth inning as David Mayo scored Stephen Wallace on an RBI single. The Trojans finished with 11 hits, led by Wallace who was 3-3.
Hunter Dilworth would get credit for the win after throwing five innings, allowing one run on seven hits. David Houser finished 3-3 with two runs scored and two RBI while Maggio was 2-4 with two runs scored and five RBI. Tony Davila and Andrew Frazier were both 2-4 while Mitchel Painter finished 3-3 with two runs scored.
The Crusaders milked a slim one run lead until the sixth inning of game two. The only run for either team until that point came in the second as Andrew Frazier's RBI ground out scored Maggio from third base as NGU took a 1-0 lead.
Insurance runs came in the sixth inning for North Greenville as the bats woke up. A Maggio single would plate Houser who reached base on a two out double. Houser would score a couple batters later on Foley George's single to center field, extending the NGU lead to 3-0.
Two more runs in the eighth inning for North Greenville would put the finishing touches on the game three win. Tony Davila's two out triple would score Foley George while Davila later scored on a UMO error to give NGU the five run cushion.
The Trojans would get a runner on in the ninth but NGU reliever Tucker Moring would work around the trouble, preserving NGU's shutout. Moring would pitch one inning in relief for NGU as starter Ethan Garner went eight innings for the Crusaders keeping the Trojans scoreless. Garner struck out seven batters and allowed just five hits.
Maggio and Foley George would lead the charge offensively as both guys finished 3-4. George had an RBI and scored a run while Maggio scored twice and had one RBI. Tony Davila was 2-3 with an RBI and a run for the Crusaders.
North Greenville improved to 17-8 on the season while staying perfect in Conference Carolinas play. The Crusaders will host Anderson University on March 17th at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive. First pitch between NGU and Anderson is scheduled for 7pm.
