Comeback bid falls short as Newberry escapes Tigerville with win

Tigerville, S.C. - North Greenville's bid for a comeback fell short on Wednesday night as Newberry earned a 6-5 win.

The Crusaders 5-0 heading as the game headed to the second inning. Tony Davila delivered the first run of the day for NGU as his RBI single scored Nathaniel Maggio. Mitchell Painter would tack on another run for North Greenville while a Josh Black single would score Davila as NGU cut the deficit to two.

NGU's pitching staff and defense would hold the Wolves scoreless for the next six innings, allowing the Crusaders to chip away at the NC lead. Andrew Frazier would get credit for an RBI in the sixth inning as the Newberry lead shrunk to 5-4.

The equalizer would come in the eighth inning on a Drew Lipscomb single through the right side. His groundball snuck between first and second, bringing around Andrew Meadows to score the game-tying run.
