Central, S.C. - Seven different players delivered 11 hits on Friday night as NGU opened a three game set with an 8-1 win over Southern Wesleyan.
Four players had two hits for NGU including Andrew Frazier who was 2-5 with two runs scored and a team high two RBI. Mitchell Painter was 2-4 with two runs scored while Bennette Hill was 2-6 with an RBI and a run. Josh Black also stayed hot as he finished the day 2-4 with a run and an RBI.
Tony Davila delivered the game's first run in the fourth inning with a solo home run to lead off the inning. Southern Wesleyan would answer in the bottom of the fourth with a run on four hits. North Greenville pitching worked around further damage, leaving the bases loaded.
Bennette Hill, Jae Roberts, and David Houser would all deliver RBI's in the sixth inning as NGU re-gained the lead at 5-1. Hill would earn one RBI on a single while Houser's single to right field plated two runs for NGU. Jae Roberts would earn his RBI as he drew a seven pitch walk with the bases loaded.
Andrew Frazier would deliver the big blow in the ninth inning as his two run homer extended the lead to 7-1. Shaquille Rolle would come around to score on the play after pinch running for Nathaniel Maggio who drew a leadoff walk. Back-to-back extra base hits would give NGU a seven run lead as Josh Black's double would score Mitchell Painter who reached on a triple.
Hunter Dilworth improved to 3-2 on the season as he earned the win on the mound for NGU. Dilworth pitched seven innings and allowed just one run on eight hits. He also had a season high eight strikeouts in the win.
The Crusaders improved to 12-6 on the season and 4-0 in Conference Carolinas play. NGU and SWU will wrap-up the three game series tomorrow with a double-header beginning at 12pm in Central, South Carolina.
