Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Baseball Team landed another player in the professional ranks last week as Ryne Frankoff signed a free-agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies.
Frankoff transferred to North Greenville last season from Appalachian State University after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The senior went 4-3 on the year but posted a 3-1 record over Conference Carolinas' perennial power, Mount Olive. He also earned two wins in the league tournament including the win over Pfeiffer in the championship to clinch NGU's first conference title.
The Apex High School graduate is the third player to sign a Major League Baseball contract this season behind Allen Staton and Adam Boghosian. Frankoff, Boghosian, and Staton become the first three players to ink major league contracts since Decomba Connor and Herb Goodman were drafted in the 7th round by the Reds in 1994 and 1995. The Crusader baseball program has now placed nine players in the major league ranks since 1970.
