The North Greenville Baseball Team secured the program's first trip to the NCAA Division II baseball tournament after winning the Conference Carolinas tournament two weeks ago.
North Greenville enters the double-elimination tournament as the sixth seed and will face the first seeded Catawba Indians who will also serve as the Southeast Tournament host. NGU is no stranger to facing number one seeds, having upset the Mount Olive Trojans who owned the first seed in the conference playoffs.
The Crusaders are one of six teams in the Southeast Region, including Catawba. Also earning automatic bids after winning conference championships were Wingate out of the South Atlantic Conference and Georgia College out of the Peach Belt. The other two spots were comprised of teams earning at-large bids including Mount Olive, also of the Conference Carolinas and North Georgia out of the Peach Belt.
North Greenville, now 29-23 after an undefeated tournament run will take on the 40-13 Indians on Thursday. The Indians won the South Atlantic Conference regular season title but were ousted by Wingate in the tournament championship.
The tournament will be held at Finch Field in Thomasville, N.C. More information on the tournament, which will begin on Thursday, will be announced on Monday.
