Burlington, N.C.—Jae Roberts had six RBI on two home runs while the NGU offense pounded out 12 hits in a 14-8 upset of the 12th ranked Mount Olive Trojans in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament.

NGU trailed 3-0 after the Trojans put up three runs in the first two innings but a three run blast from Roberts in the top of the third would even the score and shift momentum in the Crusaders favor. The Trojans plated another run in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 advantage but the Crusaders would score a combined seven runs in the fourth and fifth inning to gain a 10-4 edge.

Tony Davila and Wheeler Smith would both deliver in the fifth with homers to plate five NGU runs. Andrew Locklear would also get in on the action with a two run single in the fourth inning to give NGU its first lead of the game.

Mount Olive began to chip away at the North Greenville lead in the sixth inning with three runs to cut the deficit to three. One more run in the seventh for the Trojans would pull the Trojans even closer. UMO finished the night with eight runs on 14 hits. The Trojans uncharacteristically committed four errors on defense.

NGU piled on more insurance runs in the eighth and ninth innings. The Crusaders scored two runs in the eighth on one hit, while Jae Roberts finished off his impressive showing with his second home run of the night in the ninth, a two run blast that scored Wheeler Smith, extending the NGU lead to 14-8.

The Crusaders would get scoreless innings of relief from Adam Boghosian and Matt Laurens while Ryne Frankoff would earn the win after a shaky start to give him his fourth win of the year. Frankoff gave up seven runs on 10 hits in 5.1 innings of work.

Jae Roberts finished the night 3-6 with a career high six RBI and two homeruns. Wheeler Smith was 2-4 with three RBI and a homerun while Andrew Locklear also had two hits, going 2-3 with two RBI. Tony Davila had two hits with a homerun for the Crusaders.

North Greenville will take on King University tomorrow afternoon at 3pm. The Tornado took the regular season series 2-1 over the Crusaders.
