Tigerville, S.C—The North Greenville Baseball Team wrapped up its 2016 regular season on Saturday with a double-header split, bouncing back from a 7-1 loss to Erskine with a 9-6 win in game two.
The Crusaders got their only run of game one on a solo homerun from Allen Staton. The homer was Staton's ninth of the season and cut the Fleet lead to 3-2. Erskine added some insurance with three runs in the eighth and one more in the ninth to extend their lead 7-1.
NGU's offense found its stride in the second game. NGU recovered from an early two run Erskine lead as Andrew Locklear roped his first career homerun over the right field wall, scoring Chuck Lawing. North Greenville would take 5-2 lead later in the game but the Fleet would storm back to take a 6-5 lead with a four run sixth inning.
NGU would load the bases in the bottom of the sixth after an intentional walk to Allen Staton. Foley George would take advantage of the opportunity smashing a line drive over the left field wall, giving NGU a 9-6 lead. The Crusaders would close the door in top of the seventh as Adam Boghosian would earn his NCAA leading 12th save of the season.
George finished the game 2-3 with four RBI while Locklear was 1-3 with two RBI and a run scored. The Crusaders wrapped up the season with a program best 14-12 record in Conference Carolinas play while locking up the sixth seed in the tournament which starts next weekend. NGU will take on the first seed Mount Olive Trojans who took the regular season series from NGU 2-1.
