RALLY IN LATE INNINGS FALL SHORT IN MOUNT OLIVE

Mount Olive, N.C.—Josh Black was 2-4 from the leadoff spot while Taylor McCuen and Wheeler Smith had two RBI each in NGU's 9-4 loss to the 13th ranked Mount Olive Trojans on Friday afternoon.

The Crusaders trailed 5-0 heading into the last third of Friday's Conference Carolinas tilt, leaning on just a three hit performance. The NGU bats got going in the seventh inning though as NGU scratched across three runs while doubling its hit total from the previous six innings. Taylor McCuen got things going for NGU with a leadoff home run to cut the deficit to 5-1. Wheeler Smith would add a homer of his own two batters later as his two run blast scored Shaquille Rolle to pull North Greenville to within two runs.

The Crusaders added one more run in the eighth inning to pull to within one of the home standing Trojans. Mount Olive would added crucial insurance in the home half of the eighth however as a four run outburst on four hits would find the Crusaders in a five run hole once again. NGU would go down in the order in the ninth as the Trojans took the first game of a three game set.

McCuen and Smith were both 1-4 with two RBI while Rolle was 1-4 with a double and a run scored. North Greenville fell to 22-21 on the season and 12-10 in league play. NGU and Mount Olive will wrap up the series tomorrow afternoon with a double-header starting at 12pm.
