Tigerville, S.C.—Adam Boghosian broke NGU's single season saves record while three different players accounted for an RBI as NGU finished off a sweep of Brevard College with a 3-2 win at Ashmore Field.
NGU had just three hits on the night while the Tornados finished with seven. Taylor McCuen and Foley George were both 1-3 with an RBI while Jae Roberts earned and RBI with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. McCuen also set a school record with 19 putouts defensively as NGU's starting first baseman.
North Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as Roberts' sacrifice to right field scored Josh Black. The Crusaders would put together an instrumental two run inning in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead. Tony Davila would cross the plate for North Greenville as would Jae Roberts to give NGU some insurance heading into the final two innings of play.
The two runs in the sixth would be much needed as the Tornado finally broke through in the eighth inning. Brevard would cut the lead to 3-2 in the eighth using two hits and an NGU error to get the job done. Boghosian would close the door on the Tornado with a strike out to end the inning, leaving two on base for the Tornados. Brevard would pick up two more base runners in the ninth but the senior closer would once again work around the possible damage with a strike out to end the game leaving the tying and go ahead run on base while earning his eighth save of the season.
The Crusaders will take on the Pfeiffer Falcons this weekend in a three game set starting Friday night. NGU and Pfeiffer will play at Fluor Field in Greenville on Friday night at 7pm followed by a double-header on Saturday in Tigerville starting at 12pm.
