Tigerville, S.C—Three pitchers combined to pitch eight scoreless innings on Wednesday afternoon, helping the Crusaders to a 3-1 win over Brevard College in non-conference action.
North Greenville broke through after two and a half scoreless frames before the Crusaders broke through for one in the third. Taylor McCuen picked up an RBI on a ground ball that scored Drew Lipscomb, giving NGU a 1-0 lead.
North Greenville scratched two more runs across in the sixth inning to extend its advantage to three. A bases loaded hit by pitch and base on balls would plate Tee McConnell and Drew Lipscomb while Jessep Polk and Jae Roberts earned an RBI. NGU would strand three runners in the inning.
NGU's pitching staff put together a solid effort, keeping the Tornados off of the scoreboard until the top of the 9th inning. A base hit and three walks in the frame would score the first Brevard run of the game, cutting North Greenville's advantage to 3-1 with the bases loaded and just one out. Closer Adam Boghosian would induce a game ending double-play on the next Brevard hitter though, working himself out of a jam, while effectively giving the Crusader the two run victory.
Drew Lipscomb powered the NGU offense on Wednesday, going 3-3 from the plate, scoring two runs. Polk, Roberts, and McCuen collected RBI for the Crusaders while Allen Staton piled up two hits in four appearances. Shane Bishop was credited with the win, throwing four shutout innings, allowing just three hits. Boghosian earned his second save of the season.
North Greenville, now 9-10 on the season, will host Barton College this weekend in a three game series which starts Friday at 3:30pm.
