Milledgeville, Ga.—The North Greenville Baseball Team was edged by Georgia College 7-3 Tuesday afternoon in non-conference baseball action.
North Greenville jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning on Taylor McCuen's sacrifice fly out, giving McCuen his 16th RBI of the season. The Bobcats responded with two runs in the home half of the first, using three hits, including an RBI double, to take a 2-1 lead.
Georgia College pushed the game out of reach in the third, when leftfielder Colton Montgomery (Cartersville) singled with the bases loaded and two out, driving in two for a 4-1 lead. North Greenville scratched another run in the top of the fourth as Foley George came around to score on a Shaq Rolle fielder's choice.
The Bobcats scored runs in each of the fourth, seventh, and eighth innings to extend the advantage to five runs. North Greenville looked to rally in the ninth after being held scoreless in the previous three. NGU only scored one run in the frame however, as the Bobcats pitching staff stomped out an early rally following Drew Lipscomb's leadoff single. Allen Staton would plate the lone run in the frame with a two out RBI double, but the game would end on the next at bat as reliever Chris Gammon induced a ground out to end the game.
Staton finished the game 2-5 with an RBI and a run scored for North Greenville. Taylor McCuen finished 1-3 with an RBI and Foley George 1-3 with a run scored. Hunter Dilworth took the loss for NGU allowing two runs in two innings of work.
North Greenville returns home Wednesday afternoon for a 2pm matchup with Brevard College.
