Franklin Springs, Ga.—The North Greenville Baseball Crusaders improved to 2-2 in league play on Friday afternoon after a 13-8 decision over Emmanuel College gave the Crusaders a leg up in the weekend three game set.
There was no lack of offense during Friday's weekend opener as the team's combined for 22 hits and 81 combined plate appearances. Two runs in each of the first four innings gave NGU a comfortable lead, as Crusader pitching held the Lions to just two runs on four hits.
North Greenville's biggest inning came in the fifth when a three run outburst extended the lead to 11-4. All three RBI came off the bat of Jae Roberts, whose second home run of the season would score Josh Black and Allen Staton who reached earlier in the inning on a single and an error.
NGU would score once more on the long ball in the eighth inning on a Mitchell Painter solo blast that extended the lead to 13-8. Taylor McCuen, North Greenville's RBI leader thus far in the season, led the Crusaders with four RBI going 2-5 at the dish. Tony Davila was 1-3 with two RBI while Allen Staton and Josh Black were both 2-6.
NGU is now 6-9 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Crusaders and Lions will wrap up their three game set tomorrow afternoon with a double-header starting at 12 noon. Game two is tentatively scheduled for a 2pm start.
