Crusader Baseball Scores Season-High In Win

Mars Hill, NC – The Crusaders pounded out five extra base hits and totaled a season-high for runs in a 13-3 victory over non-conference opponent Mars Hill College on Tuesday afternoon.

North Greenville’s offense began the game on fire as sophomore Drew Lipscomb drove in the first run of the game on an RBI single in the 2nd inning for the early 1-0 lead.

In the 3rd, the Crusaders loaded the bases with no outs before sophomore Foley George belted a grand slam over the left centerfield wall for his first collegiate home run to give North Greenville a 5-0 lead.

The Lions were able to bring across two runs in the bottom of the 3rd to cut into the lead until sophomore Tyler Mitchell drove in a run with an RBI double and the Crusaders scored twice more on an error by the Mars Hill third baseman for an 8-2 lead after four innings of play.

Lipscomb drove in his second RBI of the game in the 5th with a double down the left field line before senior Taylor Hollifield drove in two runs with an RBI double followed by an RBI double from freshman Zac Davis to extend the advantage to 13-2 after six innings.

Mars Hill scored its final run of the game in the 8th inning as North Greenville secured the eight-run road victory.

Junior Stewart Hunt earned his first win of the season after pitching six innings on the mound, allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts. Sophomore Cuyler McAuliffe earned his first career save allowing one unearned run on one hit with four strikeouts in the game’s final three innings of play.

Mitchell turned in a 3-for-5 performance with a double, an RBI and three runs scored, while Hollifield was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI.

Lipscomb was also 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI as George was 1-for-4 with a home run, a run scored and four RBI. Davis finished the day 2-for-6 with a double and two RBI, while junior Josh Sealey scored three runs in the game.

North Greenville (7-25, 2-10 Conference Carolinas) will host Anderson University tomorrow in the final game of the season series at 7:30 p.m. at Ashmore Field.
