Crusaders Even Season Series With Trojans

Tigerville, SC – The middle of North Greenville’s lineup was a combined 5-for-9 with eight RBI as the Crusaders earned an 8-5 victory over Anderson University on Tuesday night.

Anderson opened with a solo home run on the first pitch of the game before adding two more runs in the top of the 2nd inning to take an early 3-0 lead.

However, North Greenville’s offense came alive in the 3rd when an RBI single from sophomore Jessep Polk scored Taylor Hollifield and Matt Cooper to cut into the Trojan lead.

The Trojans extended their lead to 5-2 in the top of the 5th, before North Greenville tied the game in the bottom of the frame.

Freshman Zac Davis and Cooper each reached on back-to-back errors and were driven in by junior Mike Habas on a double to left field. Junior Josh Sealey quickly tied the game at 5-5 with an RBI single to score Habas from third.

In the bottom of the 7th, Davis led off with a single followed by back-to-back walks from Cooper and Polk to load the bases with no outs. Habas drove in his third run of the game with a single to give North Greenville a one-run lead before Sealey drove in two runs with a single to give the Crusaders an 8-5 lead they would hold on to throughout the final two innings of play.

Sophomore Ben Kramm was given his first career start and pitched a solid six innings, allowing five runs (four earned) on 10 hits with five strikeouts. Freshman right-hander Zach Smith earned his first career win after pitching a scoreless two innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two batters.

Sealey led the offense finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Polk was 1-for-2 with two RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Habas was 2-for-4 with a double, three RBI and one run scored in the game as Davis finished 2-for-5 with a run scored. Cooper scored three runs in the game, while Hollifield also scored a run of his own.

North Greenville (6-22, 2-7 Conference Carolinas) will host Limestone College in a three-game series beginning this Friday, March 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Ashmore Field.
