Misenheimer, NC – The struggles continued for the North Greenville baseball team as the Crusaders were defeated 14-2 by the Falcons of Pfeifer University on Friday afternoon in Conference Carolinas’ action.
The Falcons opened the game on fire, scoring five runs on five hits in the 2nd inning of play before scoring nine more runs in the 6th-8th innings of the game.
North Greenville’s first hit of the game came in the top of the 8th inning when a double by sophomore Foley George broke up the Pfeiffer no-hitter. Freshman Chuck Lawing followed with a pinch-hit single to put runners on the corners before George scored on a double play.
Sophomore Drew Lipscomb scored on a sacrifice fly from freshman Mitchell Painter in the 9th to end the scoring for the Crusaders.
Junior right-hander Stewart Hunt suffered his second loss of the season, allowing eight runs on 14 hits with two walks and two strikeouts in six innings of work. Sophomore Cuyler McAuliffe saw one inning on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits, while freshman Ryan Rich allowed four runs on three hits with a strikeout in one inning of relief.
The Crusaders (4-21, 1-6 Conference Carolinas) and Falcons will play in a doubleheader tomorrow beginning at Noon.
