Tigerville, SC – Mars Hill used a four-run 7th inning to earn a 5-1 victory over North Greenville University on Wednesday night at Ashmore Field.
The Lions went ahead 1-0 in the 3rd inning on an RBI double from David King before the Crusaders tied the game in the 5th on an RBI double from junior Stephen Cantrell, scoring Foley George from first base.
However, in the top of the 7th inning went ahead by a run before a two-run home run from King and a fielder’s choice drove in one more for the Lions who shut the door down through the final three innings.
Freshman right-hander Shane Bishop started the game on the mound, pitching three innings on the mound, allowing one run on three hits, earning a no decision. Sophomore Ben Kramm was hit with the loss after allowing four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings of work, before freshman Eric Hertel pitched 1 2/3 inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. Fellow freshman Zac Davis finished the game with a hitless ninth, striking out one batter.
Cantrell led the offense, finishing 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while George was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Senior Taylor Hollified was also 1-for-3 in the game as Chuck Lawing and Josh Sealey also recorded a hit in the game.
The Crusaders (4-20, 1-5 Conference Carolinas) will resume conference play this weekend as they travel to Misenheimer, NC for a three-game series with Pfeiffer University on Friday, March 21 with first pitch scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
