Greeneville, TN – In a rematch from earlier this season, the North Greenville Crusaders dropped their 8th straight game, this time a 14-2 loss to the Pioneers of Tusculum College on Tuesday afternoon.
The Crusaders got on the board early with an RBI from Wheeler Smith in the 2nd and another from Zac Davis in the 5th to gain a 2-0 advantage.
Tusculum’s offense came alive in the 5th inning, score five runs on just one hit at the Crusader pitching staff gave up six walks and a hit by pitch in the inning.
The Pioneers offense continue to thrive, scoring once more in the 7th and tacking on eight runs in the 8th to secure the 14-2 win on their home field.
Freshman Zach Smith was hit with his third loss after allowing five runs on five hits with seven walks and a strikeout in 4 1/3 innings on the mound.
Fellow freshman Chase Day came into the game for 2/3 of an inning, walking three of the five batters he face before sophomore Cuyler McAuliffe allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits with three walks and a strikeout in his first two innings this season. Freshman Colton Grant finished the game, pitching one inning and allowed three runs (one earned) on two hits with a walk.
At the plate, Smith was 1-or-3 with an RBI, while Davis also recorded an RBI of his own in the contest. Junior Mike Habas finished the game 1-for-4 with a run score as Foley George also scored a run and was 1-for-3 on offense.
The Crusaders (4-19, 1-5 Conference Carolinas) will host Mars Hill University tomorrow, March 19 at 6 p.m. in Tigerville.
