Crusaders Unable To Take Series From Barton

Wilson, NC – Despite a second straight quality start from sophomore pitcher Matt Laurens, the Crusaders were shutout 2-0 by the Bulldogs of Barton College in Conference Carolinas’ action on Sunday afternoon.

Barton scored its first run on the game on an RBI single in the 2nd inning and tacked on an insurance run in the 6th inning to secure the two-run victory.

The left-handed Laurens recorded his second complete game in a row, allowing two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in eight innings of work.

On offense the Crusaders pounded out just eight hits in the game, led by junior Josh Sealey who finished the game 2-for-4, while sophomore Jessep Polk was 1-for-4 with his 7th double of the season. Stephen Cantrell, Matt Cooper, Tyler Mitchell, Taylor Hollifield and Wheeler Smith each recorded a hit in the contest.

North Greenville (4-13, 1-2 Conference Carolinas) will conclude their four-game road trip on Tuesday, March 11 in Brevard, NC in a rematch with Brevard College at 3 p.m.
