Belmont Earns Victory In Battle of Crusaders
Belmont, NC- In search of a series victory to keep their post season push alive, the Crusaders dropped a 10-2 decision to Belmont Abbey College on Monday afternoon on the road.
Belmont Abbey scored often and early, recording six runs on six hits in the second inning to grab the early lead.
The second inning is where the Crusaders did all of their damage, scoring two runs in the inning with RBIs from Jessep Polk and Cuyler McAuliffe.
Through the final four innings of play Belmont put four extra runs on the board to secure the eight-run victory as they pounded out 13 hits in the contest.
Freshman Tyler Wirsu was hit with the loss after pitching five innings of work, allowing seven runs on eight hits, striking out three, while Javy Taylor pitched the final three innings of relief, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with a strikeout in the contest.
On offense, the Crusaders totaled just six hits as Adam Taylor led the team with a 3-for-5 day at the plate, including his ninth double of the season. Taylor Hollifield finished the game 1-for-4, while Frank Polino and Wheeler Smith each finished 1-for-3 in the contest.
North Greenville (14-24, 5-13 in Conference Carolinas) will face off against non-conference opponent Brevard College on Wednesday, April 10 at 3 p.m. in Brevard, NC.
