Mount Olive, N.C.—The North Greenville baseball team managed just 5 hits while stranding 9 runners as the Crusaders dropped the opening game of a 3 game set to #3 Mount Olive 10-0 in 9 innings.
Mount Olive led the Crusaders 4-0 until the 8th inning when the Trojans broke out for 6 runs. Mount Olive pounded out 5 hits in the inning, and stranded one runner. On the day, the Trojans reached base on 15 hits and stranded 8.
NGU had 2 runners on in both the 3rd and 7th innings but failed to push a run across the plate. On the day Mount Olive pitching walked 4 and struck out 5. On the bump for North Greenville was senior right-hander Drew Provence. Provence pitched 6 innings and gave up 3 runs on 8 hits. He struck 6 batters and walked 2.
Nate Richards and Brandon Poole also made an appearance for the Crusaders. The two gave up 7 runs on 7 hits. Offensively, Dylan Fulk led the Crusaders with a 2-4 performance from the plate. Taylor Hollifield, Andrew Lawrence, and Markus Duckworth also dropped in base hits for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders and Trojans will wrap up their series tomorrow afternoon with a double header starting at 12pm. North Greenville must win 1 of 2 on Saturday to ensure a seed in the Conference Carolinas tournament or hope for a Coker loss to Barton.
