Tigerville, SC – After splitting a double header with conference foe Coker College, the North Greenville baseball team has reached the 20 win mark for the 2011-2012 season.
The Crusaders and Cobras split Saturday’s twin bill with Coker winning game one 13-7 and North Greenville claiming game two 2-0.
In game one, Drew Provence began the game on the mound for NGU and went 7 1/3 strong innings, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out four batters.
However, with the Crusaders leading 6-1, head coach Reggie Reynolds turned to his bullpen to close the game. Unfortunately three relievers were unable to keep the lead as Coker erupted for 12 runs in the top of the ninth to claim the 13-7 victory.
Allen Staton led the offense in game one, finishing 3-for-5 from the plate with a double, one run scored and two RBI. Derek Fulmer also had a strong game one going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
The second game of the day was a totally different story as freshman Marlin Morris turned in a masterful performance to earn his fifth win of the season. Morris pitched a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits while striking out six Cobras.
The Crusaders collected just five hits in the game but were led on offense by Dylan Fulk who finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Staton collected his first career triple in the game and later scored as Andrew Lawrence earned an RBI with a sacrifice hit in the fourth inning.
The Crusaders are now 20-11 on the season and 10-4 in conference. NGU and Coker will wrap up the three-game series on Monday, March 26 at 2 p.m. in Tigerville.
