CRUSADERS RACE TO 12-0 WIN OVER YELLOW JACKETS
Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville university baseball team hit its way to a second straight win over West Virginia State University Wednesday afternoon with a 12-0 win over the Yellow Jackets at Ashmore Field.
The Crusaders followed up an impressive offensive performance from a day before with a 12 run 16 hit performance at the plate. The Crusaders have now scored 37 runs in the last two games while pounding out 40 hits.
Andrew Lawrence was credited with his second win of the season after pitching 5 innings of scoreless baseball. Lawrence allowed 6 hits and struck out 2. Griffin Spires, Nate Richards, and Derek Fulmer also saw some action from the bump in relief.
Offensively both teams were silent for the first 2.5 innings, but NGU broke the scoreless tie with a 6 run third inning. Frank Polino put the exclamation point on the inning with a 2 out grand slam that gave NGU a 6-0 lead.
The Crusaders added 3 more runs in the 5th and 6th, lengthening their advantage. Leading the charge from the plate for NGU was Derek Fulmer who was 3-5 from the dish with 2 doubles, 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. Allen Staton also had a solid day going 3-3 with 2 runs scored.
The Crusaders improved to 19-10 on the season after Tuesday afternoon while the Yellow Jackets dropped to 6-13. NGU will return to the diamond Friday afternoon for the opening game of a 3 game conference set with Coker College.
