CRUSADERS DROP THIRD STRAIGHT DECISION

Wisenheimer, N.C. —The North Greenville baseball team pounded out 4 runs on 9 hits, and carried a 4-1 lead into the 9th, but the Falcons of Pfeiffer University scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th, to escape with a 5-4 win over the Crusaders. Friday’s loss is NGU’s 3rd straight, and 9th of the season.

Drew Provence started the day for the Crusaders on the mound, and ended with a no decision after pitching 6 complete innings giving up just 1 unearned run, while allowing 6 hits and striking out 8. Taking the loss for NGU was Andrew Lawrence who came into pitch in the 9th. Lawrence gave up 3 runs on two hits. He allowed 2 walks.

The Crusaders opened up the scoring in the first inning with a run on 2 hits. Pfeiffer tied the game at 1 in its half of the first. Both teams left runners on base in the first frame of Friday’s conference matchup. The Crusaders grabbed the lead back from the Falcons in the 2nd when Andrew Lawrence scored on Pfeiffer’s only error of the day making the score 2-1.

The Crusaders added another run in the 6th inning on Frank Polino’s RBI double, which scored Allen. NGU added an insurance run in the 9th when David Frazier singled in Anthony Foulk for his 2nd RBI of the day, making the score 4-1. Frazier was 2-5 on the day.

Pfeiffer started its comeback in the 9th inning with a leadoff solo homerun from Preston Lyon. The solo homerun would start a rally that would end with a walkoff single that scored two.

On the day, the Crusaders stranded 13 runners and committed 2 errors. NGU is now 16-9 on the season and 8-2 in conference play.
