Tigerville, S.C.—North Greenville heads into the third week of the 2012 season, fresh off of a double header split with Montreat College. The Crusaders are now 7-2 on the season, with conference games just around the corner.

With the win over Anderson University on Tuesday, the Crusaders improved to 3-1 over teams from the South Atlantic Conference.
On Wednesday, the Crusaders powered past Southern Wesleyan 20-5. North Greenville’s record against the Warriors is now 10-0 dating back to the 2010 season. The Crusaders will match up with SWU one more time this season on March 13th.
In their 7 wins this season, the Crusaders are averaging 11 runs per game.
North Greenville’s pitching staff has been steadied this season by ace Drew Provence who is now 2-0 on the season with a 2.77, earned run average. Provence has racked up 11 strikeouts in 13 innings of work.
Ryan Woodring has solidified his position in the weekend rotation, after being NGU’s best mid-week starter in 2011. Woodring is 1-1 on the season, with a 2.70 earned run average. Woodring is the team leader in strikeouts with 13.
Filling Woodring’s roll as a mid-week starter is junior college transfer, Griffin Spires. Spires has two apperances and is 2-0 on the season, with a 4.50 earned run average.
Nate Richards has been NGU’s most consistent performer out of the bullpen. Richards has a microscopic 1.42 earned run average, in 6.1 innings of work, with a 1-0 record.
Collectively, the Crusaders have a solid .365 average from the plate, with five players above the .300 mark for the season.
Center fielder Markus Duckworth is leading the team with a .410 average from the leadoff spot. Duckworth is 16-for-39 from the dish, with 14 runs scored* and 7RBI’s. He is also 8-for-8 in stolen bases*.
Adam Taylor is second on the team with a .400 batting average. Taylor has 10 RBI’s which ties him for first on the team with David Frazier and Derek Fulmer. He has 2 homeruns on the season.
On Wednesday, February 22, the Crusaders will battle the #22 ranked team in the country, Tusculum College. The Crusaders and Pioneers have a scheduled first pitch for 2 p.m.
NGU will open its first season of Conference Carolinas play on Friday, February 24, against St. Andrews Presbyterian College. The Crusaders and Knights will wrap up the series on Saturday with a double header, starting at 12 p.m. All three games will be held in Tigerville.
