Tigerville, S.C.—Markus Duckworth was 4-for-6 with 2 RBI and a run scored, and Griffin Spires went 6 innings, to register his first career win as a Crusader, as the North Greenville baseball team beat the Emmanuel College Lions 12-6.
Emmanuel College took an early 2 run lead in the first inning, taking advantage of two walks and an RBI double.
North Greenville answered the Lions 2 run first with a 7 run outburst. Duckworth led the inning off with a single to right field. Duckworth would advance to second on a stolen base, and score on an Adam Taylor single.
With runners on first and second, Derek Fulmer’s sharply hit line drive snuck by the Emmanuel third baseman scoring Duckworth and Anthony Foulk who reached on a walk. The Crusaders would bat around, andDuckworth would register his second hit of the day, slamming an RBI double into center field scoring Frank Polino.
After a shakey debut inning, Spires settled down and allowed just one more run in the 3rd, and an un-earned run in the 4th. In his first outing, Spires pitched 6 solid innings, allowing three earned runs on just 4 hits. He allowed 4 free passes and struck out 2.
Offensively, seven Crusaders found the stat sheet, with at-least one hit. Taylor was 3-for-5 from the plate with two runs scored and two RBI’s for the Crusaders. Fulmer and David Frazier also had their first multi-hit games of the season, both with two base knocks. Frazier and Fulmer also scored two runs a pience and Fulmer plated two RBI.
North Greenville is now 2-0 on the year and averaging 11.5 runs per game thus far. Also, NGU’s first year head coach Reggie Reynolds is now 2-0 in his career, after the back-to-back wins.
The Crusaders will have Thursday off to regroup, before returning to the diamond on Friday for a Friday matchup with Lenior-Rhyne. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 2pm, and will be the first game of a three game set with the Bears.
