Due West, S.C.—The North Greenville baseball team pounded out 10 base hits, including three doubles and a triple from Markus Duckworth, en route to a 6-3 win over the Flying Fleet of Erskine College Monday afternoon in the rubber match of a Conference Carolinas three game series.

The Crusaders are now 5-1 in conference play after taking the series from Erskine. Ryan Woodring started for the Crusaders on the mound today, and picked up his 3rd win of the season. He pitched 8.1 innings and allowed 3 runs while striking out 6 batters. Woodring now leads the team with 27 strikeouts on the season.

North Greenville struck first scoring two runs in Monday’s opening frame. Markus Duckworth started the early inning rally with a leadoff walk. After two consecutive putouts and a Derek Fulmer walk, senior David Frazier jumped on a John Sever pitch, and lasered it down the right field line, scoring Duckworth and Fulmer, to NGU a 2-0 lead.

The Crusaders extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning, when Markus Duckworth scored his second run of the game on a Fleet wild pitch. Erskine evened the score at 3 in the bottom of the third scoring 3 runs on 5 hits, one of which was a two run homer from Drew Willingham.

NGU was quick to answer in the top of the top of 6th. David Frazier started the rally leading the inning off with his second double of the game. Frazier later scored on Andrew Lawrence’s RBI single to left field. North Greenville added its 6th run of the game in the 9th when Markus Duckworth scored his 3rd run of the game on a single off the bat of Anthony Foulk.

Nate Richards would enter the game in the 9th after a Woodring walk, to close the game out for NGU. 8 of 9 NGU starters registered at least 1 hit on Monday. David Frazier was 2-5 with two doubles, 2 RBI’s and a run scored. Allen Staton was also 2-5 from the plate and Markus Duckworth scored 3 runs.
