Tigerville, S.C.— Freshman right hander Ryan Woodring picked up his second win of the season Tuesday night as he led the North Greenville Baseball team to a 1-0 victory over nationally ranked Erskine College.
The single run for NGU came in the first inning. After a lead-off single, catcher Anthony Foulk advanced to third base after a double from Adam Taylor. Foulk later scored on a sacrifice fly from David Frazier. Foulk’s run would be extent of the scoring. The performance of the day was from Ryan Woodring. Woodring pitched seven innings of shutout baseball allowing just three hits. He allowed four walks while striking out five. Closer Brian Giles came on in relief in the eighth inning. Giles pitched two complete innings allowing two hits and a walk. He struck out one.
The Crusaders are now 4-1 against the Flying Fleet dating back to the 2010 season when NGU was 3-1 against Erskine. The future conference foes will mix it up one more time during the 2011 season in Tigerville. Tuesday’s win moves the Crusaders to 11-6 on the season with another game tomorrow at 2pm against Anderson.
