Tigerville, S.C.—Left Fielder Derek Fulmer picked up two RBI’s and a solo homerun but it was not enough as the Crusader fell today to the Brevard College Tornadoes 5-4 extra innings.

Brevard jumped to an early one run lead in the first inning after a solo homerun from Ronald Patterson. The Crusaders tied the game in the fourth after an Adam Taylor double. The Tornadoes answered with a three run fifth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

North Greenville platted a second run in the sixth inning after a Derek Fulmer solo home run. Fulmer would also add an RBI in the eighth inning with a run scoring double. Representing the go ahead run, Fulmer would advance to third on a passed ball and score on an Andrew Lawrence sacrifice fly.

Both teams failed to score a run in the ninth inning. With two outs and a runner on third, a ground ball between the first and second basemen would score the go ahead run for Brevard. The Crusaders trailed 5-4 heading into the bottom of the tenth. The Crusaders threatened to tie the game with a runner on second base but were unable to capitalize.

Offensively the Crusaders were led by Derek Fulmer who was 3-5 from the plate with two RBI’s and two runs scored. Fulmer’s sixth inning homerun was his first of the season. Nate Richards picked up the loss for NGU giving up one run on one hit in just two innings pitched. Richards is now 1-1 on the season.

The Crusader fall to 4-3 on the year with a  game tomorrow at 2pm against Anderson University.
