Chowan, N.C.—Sophomore Derek Fulmer pitched a complete 7 innings allowing only two runs leading North Greenville past #1 seeded Southeastern 11-2 at the NCCAA South Regional Tournament.
The Crusaders trailed by one until the third inning when Markus Duckworth scored on an Adam Taylor single. Soon after knotting the score at one, North Greenville took the lead scoring three runs on four hits. Two of the three Crusader runs scored on a double from Randy Stegall.
The Crusaders went on to score five runs in the fifth, a one run in both the sixth and seventh innings. Southeastern’s second and final run came in the fifth inning. For the game the Fire stranded four runners on base. Fulmer held the Fire to seven hits.
Offensively, North Greenville was led by seniors Dayton Lupton and Randy Stegall. Lupton was 3-4 from the plate with two runs scored and two RBI’s and Stegall was 2-5 with three RBI’s and one run scored. Shortstop David Frazier also had a solid day at the plate going 3-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
With the win, the Crusaders advance to the championship (Friday at 3pm) game where they will play the winner of the Southeastern Emmanuel game slated for 12pm Friday afternoon. The winner of the EC vs. SU game will be forced to beat North Greenville twice to advance to the NCCAA World Series.
