Game Two Box
Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Baseball Team (37-13) was swept in a three game series for the first time this year today dropping a double header to the 10th ranked Georgia College & State Bobcats losing game one 7-4 and dropping game two 8-3.
Starting game one for North Greenville was right hander Drew Provence who suffered his first loss of the year as the starting pitcher. Provence pitched 6.1 innings giving up 6 runs on 11 hits. The Crusaders were down 1-0 heading into the second inning in which they scored three runs to take the lead 3-1. Two of the runs coming on a Markus Duckworth triple.
The Bobcats would strike back in the third inning scoring four runs to take the lead. GCSU added a run in the fourth and seventh innings to pad their lead. The Crusaders added a run in the seventh inning trying but the comeback fell short. In game one the Crusaders were led by their eight and nine spot hitters in Brian Giles and Markus Duckworth.
Giles was 2-3 with a run scored and Duckworth was 2-3 with a triple, two RBI’s and two runs scored. The Crusaders looked to bounce back in game two but Georgia College & State continued their hot hitting scoring four runs in the first inning.
The Bobcats added runs in the second, fifth, and seventh innings. The Crusaders were held scoreless until the fifth inning when Markus Duckworth scored on a Randy Stegall Double. North Greenville went on to score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but were unable to pick up a comeback win.
Randy Stegall led the Crusaders offensively in game two going 2-4 with an RBI. Adam Taylor was 1-4 with two RBI’s and Tyler Callicutt was 1-3.
North Greenville will wrap up the 2010 regular season tomorrow with a double header against St. Andrews Presbyterian College.
