Tigerville, S.C.—The North Greenville Baseball Team (37-10) moved three games closer to 40 wins today with a 24-7 demolition of Limestone College.
After a scoreless first inning for both teams, the Saints of Limestone broke the scoreless tie with a two run second inning.
The Crusaders answered back with two runs of their own in bottom half of the second. Limestone regained the lead in the fourth inning platting one run, the 3-2 lead would not last long however.
With the threat of rain in the area, the Crusaders conjured up a storm of their own with 9 runs in the fourth inning. On this day, lightning struck twice as North Greenville fired a barrage of RBI singles at the Saints position players. In all the Crusaders scored 10 runs on 12 hits in the fifth inning, nine of the 12 hits being singles.
The Crusaders added three runs to their 21-7 lead in the seventh inning icing the team’s 37th win of the season. Mark Benjamin was credited with the win after pitching 5.1 innings giving up 7 runs on nine hits. Benjamin registered three strikes and allowed one walk.
Offensively, seven of NGU’s nine starters registered at least two hits and at least two runs scored. Randy Stegall was 3-5 with two runs scored and four RBI’s. Tyler Callicutt led the team with five RBI’s. Callicutt was 2-4 on the day as well with a three run home run and three runs scored. Markus Duckworth also had a solid day at the plate going 4-5 with three runs scored and four RBI’s.
The Crusaders will take Wednesday off before jumping head first into a tough three game series with nationally ranked Georgia College and State University on Friday.
