Tigerville, S.C.—Sophomore Anthony Foulk smashed a three run homer in the fourth inning and David Frazier added three more RBI’s leading the Crusaders to a 7-5 win over the Crimson Hawks of Illinoi University in Pennsylvania.
Starting pitcher Drew Province pitched seven innings for NGU giving up one run on three hits. He also struck out five batters and allowed four walks. Province is now 5-0 on the season as a starter. Brian Giles came on in relief for North Greenville in the eighth inning. Giles gave up two runs on three hits while posting two strike outs and allowing one walk.
The Crusaders put the pressure on IUP early scoring one run in the first and third innings. North Greenville’s biggest inning came in the bottom of the fourth inning off of the Foulk three run homer that scored Markus Duckworth and Dayton Lupton. The Crusaders scored two more runs in the seventh inning.
IUP pulled to within two runs of NGU in the top of the ninth. The Crimson Hawks threatened with no outs and runners in scoring position before Brian Giles forced an infield pop out and struck out two to halt the threat and secure the win for North Greenville.
With the win the Crusaders extend their winning streak to nine games and move to 12-2 on the season.
“This was another big win over a very good baseball team and I’m very proud of our guys,” said head coach Travis Henson. “We didn’t play as well as we could but it is a sign of growth that we can find a way to win a baseball game like that. Now we gotta’ keep it rolling and get ready for the double header against the same team tomorrow.”
The Crusaders will take the field tomorrow for a double header against IUP. The first game is scheduled for a 12pm first pitch.
