Anderson, S.C.—The North Greenville University baseball team traveled to Anderson for an early week double header against the Trojans. The teams would split the series as NGU won the first game 6-3 and Anderson won the second game 10-4.
The Crusaders started the game off on the right track as Randy Stegall led off with a triple. Adam Taylor would score Stegal to register the first RBI of the game. The Trojans answered in the bottom half of the first inning scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Crusaders pulled ahead in the second inning platting five runs on RBI’s from David Frazier, Anthony Foulk, and Adam Taylor. NGU went on to score one more run in the fourth inning. Offensive leaders in the first game were Randy Stegall who went 3-3 and Dayton Lupton who went 3-3 as well.
In the second game, the Crusaders were not as clutch. NGU scored one run in the second inning of game two but Anderson answered with a five run bottom half. The Trojans went on to score three runs in the third and two in the fifth. NGU plated runs in the third and fourth innings.
“We got a good disciplined win in the first game over a good baseball team” said head coach Travis Henson “in the second game we just walked to many batters to win the game. It was a frustrating to say the least and we had our chances to win but I’m proud of how the team played in the first game.”
The series split puts the Crusaders at 4-2 on the season with a three game series coming up at Southern Wesleyan on the 19th. Anderson will come to North Greenville to take on the Crusaders on February 24th.
