Dahlonega, Ga.– North Georgia College shutout North Greenville 6-0 in game one, and then had to rally in the late innings to finish a doubleheader sweep with an 8-5 win in game two over the Crusaders.

Freshman Drew Provence (Fayetteville, Ga.) went the distance for the Crusaders, but suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and all six runs while striking out three and walking one.

In game two, North Greenville found plenty of base runners early, loading the bases in each of the first two innings but only managing a fielder’s choice by Chris Harbit to plate a run in the first inning.

The Crusaders got to within a run in the third inning as Tyler Callicutt led off and sent a screaming liner over the left field fence to pull NGU to within 3-2.  In the bottom of the inning, the Saints managed two more runs as Airich doubled and scored on a wild pitch, and Logan Sharrett provided a sacrifice hit to give North Georgia a 5-2 third-inning lead.

North Greenville tied the game 5-5 in the fourth inning, on the strength of Callicutt’s second homer of the game, this time a three-run blast heading into the fifth inning.

North Georgia scored back-to-back runs on bases loaded walks and took a 7-5 lead in the fifth, and then added a solo homer run in the sixth to give the Saints an 8-5 advantage.

Callicut ended up his big day with a 2-4 performance in the second game with four RBI’s, Derek Fulmer was 2-4, Randy Stegall went 2-3 with two runs scored, and Chris Harbit was 1-4 with the other RBI for North Greenville.
The Crusaders will next host Atlanta Christian Saturday, April 24 at 3:00 p.m. at Ashmore Field.
