Solid hitting in four different innings of the first game of a doubleheader led North Greenville to an 8-6 victory over Davis & Elkins of West Virginia Saturday afternoon at Ashmore Field in Tigerville. The Crusaders dropped the second game 10-5.
NGU rightfielder Justin Walters went 2-3 with two RBI’s, Tyler Callicut was 2-3 and Anthony Foulk was 1-3 with two RBI’s to pace the Crusaders in the game one victory. Derek Brown picked up the win on the mound in relief of Grayson Smith and Daniel Goodnight. Devin Vance came on to slam the door on D&E as he pitched the final 1 2/3 innings allowing no runs and no hits.
The Crusaders sealed the win with a three run 5th inning. Chad Drosieko had an RBI double early in the inning, Dayton Lupton had a sacrifice fly that knocked in the second run, and David Frazier also had an RBI double.
In the second game, NGU allowed Davis & Elkins to score five runs in the third inning, but then battled back late to make it closer. The Crusaders left nine men on base, including one in the 7th inning after they had scored a run to close the gap.
Tyler Callicut had hit second straight big game going 2-2 with two runs scored. Dayton Lupton continued to find ways to score runs as he had two RBI’s while going 1-2 at the plate.
North Greenville will next play at Limestone Wednesday, March 11, at Anderson on Thursday, March 12 and then host Erskine for three games Friday and Saturday, March 13-14.
