TIGERVILLE, SC--Chowan University scored four runs in the sixth inning to top North Greenville University 7-2 Saturday afternoon in a nine-inning contest. The Crusaders fall to 8-34-1 on the season.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader, but due to rain were only able to get in one game.
Chris Nelson picked up the win on the mound for the Hawks, pitching seven innings and striking out six. Daniel Goodnight was credited with the loss for NGU.
Billy Walling put CU on the board first with a double that scored P.J. Sadler and Zack Beasley in the first inning.
NGU answered with one run in each of the first and third innings. Curt Marshall doubled in Josh Hohn in the first, while Hohn hit an RBI single to plate Cory Hinton in the third.
The Hawks had a huge, four-run fourth inning as Brandon Hamlett, David Hughes, Beasley, and Walling all picked up RBIs. Matt Crane scored from third base on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to give the Hawks some insurance.
Hughes led CU from the plate, batting 3-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Hohn and Marshall each had two hits and an RBI to pace North Greenville.
