TIGERVILLE, SC--North Greenville University rallied to score two runs in the eighth inning to defeat Chowan University 3-2 Friday afternoon at Ashmore Field. The Crusaders improve to 8-33-1 on the season.
Chowan took an early 2-0 lead in the third inning. Zack Beasley singled Jordan Whitlatch home for the first run. Then, David Hughes scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by P.J. Sadler.
Curt Marshall put NGU on the board in the sixth inning with a solo home run.Then, in the eighth inning, Marshall plated Cory Hinton on a sacrifice fly to tie the game 2-2. Chris Harbit singled in Brandon Duckwork for the winning run.
Grayson Smith pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and striking out two, to pick up the win for the Crusaders. Brandon Hamlett was credited with the loss for the Hawks.
Marshall led NGU from the plate with two RBI on one hit, including the home run. Four other Crusaders had one hit apiece.
Hughes batted 3-for-4 with one run scored to lead Chowan.
The two teams will square off in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
