GREENWOOD----The Lander baseball team won its fifth consecutive game at Legion Field Wednesday afternoon when the Bearcats defeated North Greenville, 2-1, in a non-conference contest.
Lander improves to 10-14 overall, while North Greenville slides to 9-17.
The Bearcats’ Daniel Hinchberger (4-2), who pitched two predetermined innings, earned the win, striking out four and allowing just two hits in two innings of work. Evan Christian relieved Hinchberger and allowed one earned run on four hits in five innings pitched. Derek Wilson picked up the save, allowing just one hit in two innings.
Dylan Davidson (3-4) took the loss for the Crusaders as he struck out six, walked three and allowed two earned runs on eight hits in eight innings pitched.
Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jonathan Myers singled to left field, stole second, advanced to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.
Lander stretched the lead to 2-0 in the second inning when T.J. Guinan singled, advanced to second on the throw, to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.
North Greenville scored its only run in the third inning when Matt Britt singled to center field, advanced to second on a ground out, then scored on Chris Tate’s RBI single to right field.
For Lander, Myers went 2-for-4 with one run and two stolen bases and Eric Barrett went 2-for-4.
For North Greenville, Kyle Baron went 1-for-3 with one double, Tate was 3-for-4 with one RBI and Britt went 2-for-4 with one run.
