Baseball holds on for 7-5 win over King

TIGERVILLE, SC- King College mounted a rally in the ninth inning, scoring five runs, but North Greenville University was able to hold off the Tornados for a 7-5 win Tuesday afternoon at Ashmore Field. The Crusaders improve to 9-16 on the season, while King falls to 10-6.

Grayson Smith pitched eight and two thirds innings, giving up 11 hits and striking out seven to pick up the win for the Crusaders. Brandon Shoun took the loss for the Tornados.

Mike Reis led NGU with four hits and four RBI. Chris Tate went 2 for 5 with an RBI.

NGU took an early lead in the first inning Tate singled in Reis. Then, in the second inning, Reis doubled in Matt Britt and Rick Broadway.

NGU added two runs in the fourth inning. Demerius Mathis scored on a fielder's choice and Reis again doubled in Britt.

Curt Marshall scored on a fielder's choice in the fifth inning. Reis hit his fourth double of the day in the 8th inning to score Britt again and make the score 7-0 heading into the ninth inning.

The Tornados found some offense in the ninth inning and scored five runs, three of which came on a Justin Reising home run.

North Greenville will be back in action tomorrow at Lander University. The doubleheader begins at 5:00 p.m.
