TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville University swept a doubleheader with Tusculum Tuesday afternoon at Ashmore Field. The Pioneers are ranked 15th in this week's Collegiate Baseball Top 30 poll. The Crusaders took Game One 7-4 and Game Two 5-1. North Greenville improves to 5-8 on the season.
Devin Vance pitched seven inning, giving up 13 hits and four runs, while striking out four en route to winning his second game of the year. Curt Marshall went 3 for 3 with two RBI and one run scored.
NGU put two runs on the board early. In the first inning, Marshall doubled in Corey Hinton and Chris Tate.
The Crusaders also plated two runs in the third inning as Hinton scored on a fielding error and Dylan Davidson knocked in Marshall.
Tusculum put up two runs in the fifth inning and one in each of the sixth and seventh innings.
North Greenville added three runs in the sixth inning to ensure the victory.Demerius Mathis scored in a fielder's choice, while Tate and Rick Broadway scored on a fielding error.
Bruce Whitehead pitched seven inning, giving up one hit and one run, while striking out two.
North Greenville scored all five or their runs in the third inning. Broadway scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Reis. Then, Matt Britt tripled in three runs.
Tusculum added one run in the top of the seventh inning.
