TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville won two games in a three-game weekend series against Fairmont State. The Crusaders won Friday afternoon 8-4, and won the first of a doubleheader on Saturday 5-3. Fairmont State won the third game 5-1.
Friday, Fairmont St. took a 2-1 lead in the first inning, but North Greenville took the lead with a three-run third inning. Chris Tate doubled in Matt Britt and Kyle Baron. Then, Carlos Cardenas hit in Michael Reis to give the Crusaders a 4-3 advantage. North Greenville added two more runs in each of the fourth and seventh innings. In the fourth inning, Baron hit an RBI double, and then scored a few batters later on a Fairmont St. error. In the seventh, Cardenas hit a two-run home run to round out the scoring. Brandon Young pitched a complete game, giving up nine hits and striking out seven batters for his first victory of the season.
Saturday, North Greenville opened up with a 5-3 win. The Crusaders took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Britt scored on a Chris Tate sacrifice fly. In the third inning, Reis singled home Baron, and then Britt scored on an error. Reis eventually crossed the plate on a passed ball.
North Greenville rounded out the scoring in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Rick Broadway. Eric Loy scored on the play.
Devin Vance picked up the win by pitching a complete game, giving up two hits and striking out six.
Fairmont State won the series finale 5-1. Broadway homered to score North Greenville's only run.
The Crusaders will be back in action Tuesday as they host number 1 ranked Georgia State. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 2:00 p.m.
