Baseball falls at USC Aiken

AIKEN, S.C.--USC Aiken (28-7) scored 19 runs in the first five innings to cruise past North Greenville (9-27) by the score of 19-4 in non-conference baseball action on Wednesday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. The ninth-ranked Pacers pounded out 19 hits en route to tying the school record for consecutive home wins with 10. It was also the teamís 12th-straight victory over a non-conference opponent as the Pacers improve to 9-0 all-time versus the Crusaders.

Already leading 5-1 through two innings, the Pacers exploded for 10 runs on nine hits and three errors in the third inning to blow the game open. Brad Johnson and Robert Davis each had RBI doubles, John Sherrer and Casey Derhak added RBI singles, and Marc Joehnk punctuated the eruption with a two-run homer to left field. It was the third home run of the season for Joehnk while Derhak extended his hitting streak to 15 games.

Eight different players had at least two hits for USC Aiken. Joehnk went 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Michael Wadowski smacked a three-run shot over the wall in right in the fourth inning to balloon the advantage to 18-1. Wadowski finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a game-high three RBI.

North Greenville capitalized on two Pacer errors in the sixth to plate two runs. Mark Bordeaux had an RBI groundout while Dylan Davidsonís sac fly made it 19-3.

Chris Tate and Eric Loy each had two of the Crusaders six hits on the night.

Scott Wandless tossed 4.0 innings allowing one earned run on two hits and one walk, fanning five in the no decision. Houston Taylor (1-0) worked 1.0 inning of relief in the win. In total, six Pacer pitchers saw action on the evening including closer Nick Wandless who upped his consecutive hitless appearances to eighth.

Seth Montgomery (0-5) suffered the loss for North Greenville surrendering 15 runs on 15 hits and one walk in 3.0 innings.

USC Aiken will host #12 Columbus State in a key Peach Belt Conference showdown this weekend at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Saturdayís doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM. North Greenville will host Tusculum College Thursday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
