Crusader baseball splits with Milligan

TIGERVILLE, SC- North Greenville University split a doubleheader with Milligan College Tuesday afternoon at Ashmore Field. The Crusaders won the first game 7-3, while Milligan took game two 7-0.


Matt Britt started off the scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Carlos Cardenas. The Crusaders had a huge second inning. Rick Broadway doubled in Kyle Baron. Then, Eric Loy drove Broadway home on a single two batters later. Loy then scored on a Britt double. Mike Reis drove Britt home to round out the scoring for the inning.

North Greenville extended the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Broadway scored again on a Loy single. In the sixth, Chris Tate singled home Cardenas to give the Crusaders a 7-0 advantage.

Milligan scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Tyler Turner scored on a walk. Then, Jon Edmonds scored on a Clint Dorman single to center field. Drew Anders crossed the plate on a Will Little single to round out the scoring.

Brandon Young picked up the win for the Crusaders. Young pitched seven innings.He gave up six hits and three runs, while striking out two.


The second game proved to be adifferent story for both teams. North Greenville never got on the board. Milligan scored four runs in the first inning. Spencer Street scored on a Kory Kinnear sacrifice fly to begin the scoring. Turner scored on a single from Alex Della Mora. A few batters later, Little hit a two RBI single to center field.

In the fifth inning, Little scored on another sacrifice fly. Milligan picked up its final two runs in the top of the sixth inning. David Rusaw crossed the plate on a Turner single. Then, Edmonds singled Dorman home.

Stephen Jarrett picked up the win for Milligan. Jarrett struck out one and gave up three hits in seven innings of work. Brett Hamilton took the loss for North Greenville.
