MURFREESBORO, NC- North Greenville University opened up a three-game series at Chowan College with a 9-4 victory on Friday. Brandon Young pitched seven and 2/3 innings to pick up the win. Young struck out four while giving up nine hits and four runs.
The Crusaders took an early lead when Carlos Cardenas doubled in Mike Reis in the top of the first inning. Cardenas later would score on an error by the Chowan catcher. The Braves cut the score to 2-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Jaron Neal singled home Justin Hollingsworth.
North Greenville added two more runs in the top of the third. Chris Tate singled Reis home, and then later scored on a groundout. Chowan added one more run in the bottom half of the inning.
The Crusaders picked up one run in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Cardenas tripled Eric Loy home in the fourth. Brett Hamilton drove in Rick Broadway with a single in the fifth. Then, Reis scored for the third time of the game on a double by Tate.
The Crusaders rounded out the scoring in the eighth inning with a two-run homer by Cardenas.
Saturday, the Braves picked up two wins by scores of 5-0 and 6-4. North Greenville is now 8-25 on the season. Chowan is 14-9. North Greenville will be back in action Tuesday as they play host to Milligan College at Ashmore Field.
